Standard Event Authorisation Workflow
This workflow is a standard part of Sense, switched on by default rather than something you install separately. It tells Sense to check every event request an employee submits from their calendar and route it to the right approver, whether that's their manager or, if they don't have one, an admin.
How it works
Set your reporting lines then let Sense route every event request
To use the Standard Event Authorisation Workflow, simply keep your employees' manager assignments up to date, since Sense uses this standard, built-in workflow to decide who approves each event automatically rather than needing separate setup.
Then, every time an employee submits an event request from their calendar, such as booking time off, Sense will automatically notify the right approver by email and Todo task.
If the employee has one manager, then that manager alone can approve or reject it; if they have multiple managers, then any one of them can action it; and if they have no manager at all, then the request goes to all admins instead.

What kicks this workflow off?
An employee submitting an event request from their calendar, such as a holiday or other time off booking that needs approval.
Who approves the request?
Their line manager, by default. Employees with more than one manager have it go to all of their managers, and anyone without a manager has it routed to all admins instead.
What happens once it's approved or declined?
The employee gets a confirmation email with the manager's decision and any reasoning given.
Are there requests that skip approval entirely?
Yes. Requests an admin submits for someone else, and requests a manager makes for their own team, go through without needing sign-off, and any admin without a manager has their own requests auto-approved.
What if we need a more complex approval chain?
This standard workflow covers single-step manager approval. For dual approvals, backup approvers, or rerouting, Sense's workflow library has alternative event authorisation workflows built for those cases.
