How It Works

Scan for trouble and send help fast

  1. 1

    Emergency detected

Sense constantly scans for hard falls, heavy impacts, lack of movement, or SOS button pushes.

  2. 2

    SOS triggered

An SOS alert is sent based on your own custom rules, such as to the person's direct supervisor.

  3. 3

    Location broadcasted

The alert shows the precise location of whoever is in trouble, inside or out with room-level accuracy.

  4. 4

    Help requested

Sense can scan for the nearest available colleague, and then direct them to whoever needs help.

  5. 5

    Incident logged

Each SOS trigger is logged in your system, along with response times, for audits or investigations.

Locate Incident

Know exactly where to go

Sense Gateways show you exactly which room or zone the person is in, such as the loading bay, the stockroom, the sales floor, or the canteen. This helps you find them fast if an SOS is triggered.

FAQ

Man down and SOS alarm questions

Browse these frequently asked questions about man down alarms and SOS alerts

What is a man down alarm?

A man down alarm raises an alert automatically if a worker falls, suffers a heavy impact or stops moving, so help can reach them even if they cannot call for it. The Sense Badge does this, and also has an SOS button so staff can call for help themselves.

What is the difference between a man down alarm and an SOS alarm?

A man down alarm goes off automatically when something happens to the worker. An SOS alarm is raised by the worker pressing a button. The Sense Badge does both. The Sense Tag and the Sense HR app have an SOS button.

How does the Sense Badge detect a fall?

The Badge looks for hard falls, heavy impacts and a lack of movement. When it spots one, it can raise an SOS alert automatically, with where the person is.

Who gets the alert?

The people you choose, such as the person's supervisor, a trained first aider or a team at head office. You can set different pathways for different sites, roles or types of worker. Sense does not send alerts to a 24/7 alarm receiving centre.

Do employers have to provide man down alarms for lone workers?

UK employers must assess the risks to staff who work alone and put sensible controls in place. A man down alarm is not always required, but it is one of the most common ways to make sure a lone worker can get help. See our lone worker safety page for more.

Does the alarm show where the person is?

Yes. Indoors, Sense Gateways show which room or zone the person is in. Outdoors, the Sense Badge uses GPS.

Can the same Badge clock staff in?

Yes. With a Sense Gateway at the entrance, the Badge clocks staff in and out automatically with AutoClock. It also has a fingerprint scanner to check who is wearing it.

Does it track staff when they are not at work?

No. Sense is for working time only, and staff are not tracked outside it.
